(Observations include the typical variety and var. fulgida of Prairie Phlox. Bees suck nectar and/or collect pollen, Syrphid flies and beetles feed on pollen, other insect visitors suck nectar. The large carpenter bee, Xylocopa virginica, sucks nectar by perforating the base of the corolla.
